PRESCHOOLERS  Play becomes the vehicle through which preschoolers activate their memories.  Children are more likely to remember when allowed to manipulate objects when shown pictures or told facts.  Children need opportunities to repeat acquired skills to fully assimilate their learning.  Repetition that is initiated and directed by the child, not adult directed drill and practice, is most valuable for successful acquisition of knowledge and skills.
In addition, the preschool program:

 Provides a non-biased climate that positively reinforces children as they strive toward independence and choices of activities;
Emphasizes development of social and communication skills to assist in their success in future educational environments to facilitate getting along with others;
Encourages logical deductive thinking, observation skill development, ability to draw conclusions, and problem solving skills in a safe environment of hands-on testing;
Offers children the choice of participating in a small group, teacher directed, or solitary activity;
Supports development of a positive sense of self; and,
Allows creativity and imagination to bloom in an emotionally supportive and responsive environment.
